The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has announced a global call for experienced professionals to join its roster of experts supporting projects funded by the World Bank. This opportunity targets mid- to senior-level specialists in humanitarian and development sectors who can contribute to programs addressing critical global challenges such as education, health, protection, and economic wellbeing.

The recruitment drive is designed to identify exceptional leaders and consultants capable of guiding and implementing initiatives within the IRC’s Crisis, Response, Recovery and Development (CRRD) unit. These projects will operate across several regions, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected countries.

Roles Available for Global Experts

The main roles include:

  • Team Leaders responsible for managing project implementation and guiding program strategy.
  • Technical Experts specializing in:

    • Resilience and climate adaptation
  • Environmental and Social Safeguard Advisors who ensure projects comply with environmental and social standards required by the World Bank.

Selected professionals may be required to travel or be based in host countries depending on the location of specific projects.

  • Colombia – Development and humanitarian initiatives

Middle East and Asia

  • Syria – Livelihoods and protection programs
  • Lebanon – Education and protection services
  • Afghanistan – Education and protection initiatives
  • Pakistan – Education and climate resilience
  • Bangladesh – Disaster risk reduction

Candidates with regional expertise and experience working with governments and local partners will be highly valued.

Key Requirements for Applicants

Professionals interested in joining the IRC’s roster must meet several important criteria. These requirements ensure that selected experts can effectively operate in challenging environments and deliver high-quality results.

Key qualifications include:

  • At least seven years of professional experience in program design, implementation, or management within development or humanitarian sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience working in fragile, conflict-affected, or violence-prone countries.
  • Previous experience serving as a Team Leader, Technical Advisor, or similar leadership role, preferably on World Bank–funded projects.
  • Experience managing consortia of international and local partners.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to operate at a senior management level.
  • Proven ability to work within matrix management structures and adaptive programming environments.
  • Experience working within the World Bank operational framework in developing countries.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with government officials and stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English, with additional languages such as French or Spanish considered an advantage.

Technical experts must also demonstrate specialized experience in their chosen sector, such as education systems, health programs, economic empowerment initiatives, or protection services.
