Roblox Unveils AI-Powered ‘Build,’ Bringing Game Creation to Mobile for the First Time
For nearly two decades, Roblox has invited players to become creators. Now, the platform is taking that vision a step further by making game development as simple as describing an idea.
In a major announcement this week, Roblox introduced Build, a new AI-powered creation tool that allows users to generate playable game experiences directly from the Roblox mobile app. Rather than opening Roblox Studio on a PC and building everything from scratch, creators can simply type what they want to make and receive a working game prototype within moments.
The new feature represents one of Roblox’s most ambitious creator updates in years, targeting not only experienced developers but also millions of players who have ideas for games but lack the technical skills to build them.
“Somewhere right now, someone has an idea for a game,” Roblox wrote in its announcement. “They know exactly what it would feel like to play. They just don’t know how to build it. Today, that changes.”
Using Build, a player could enter a prompt describing an adventure through a mysterious forest, a racing game, or even a survival experience. Roblox’s AI then assembles the foundations of that project, generating environments, gameplay systems, characters, sound, and visual elements that creators can continue refining before publishing.
Unlike standalone AI generators, Build is tightly connected to Roblox Studio. Projects created on a phone can be opened later on desktop, where developers can expand, customize, and polish their games using Studio’s professional development tools. The two platforms share the same project history, allowing creators to switch seamlessly between mobile and PC.
The announcement goes beyond Build itself. Roblox also revealed a suite of AI assistants designed to help developers spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time creating.
Among the new tools is a Playtesting Agent capable of identifying bugs before a game reaches players, an Analytics Agent that answers questions about game performance using everyday language, and an Experiment Agent that recommends changes aimed at improving player retention and monetization.
Roblox is also continuing to expand its AI-powered asset creation technology. Its Cube foundation model already produces game-ready 3D objects from simple prompts, while a forthcoming scene-generation model promises to create entire editable game environments with a single request.
Despite the growing role of artificial intelligence, Roblox insists that creativity—not automation—will remain at the heart of the platform. The company emphasized that AI-generated games will not receive preferential treatment in discovery. Every experience, whether created traditionally or with AI, must still earn its audience through player engagement and retention.
Build will begin its public alpha rollout on July 28, starting in New Zealand. Initially, the feature will be available to age-verified users aged nine and older, while games published through the tool will continue to undergo Roblox’s existing moderation and safety review before becoming available globally.
The company says this is only the beginning. More AI-powered development tools are expected to arrive in the coming months as Roblox works toward a future where creating a game is no longer limited by technical knowledge.
For a platform built on the promise that anyone can create, Build may be Roblox’s clearest attempt yet to make that promise a reality.
