You can turn off Siri on your AirPods in a few ways, depending on what you want to achieve:
1. Prevent Siri from activating via your AirPods’ gestures (tap/press and hold):
This is the most common way to stop accidental Siri activations from your AirPods.
On iPhone or iPad:
- Make sure your AirPods are connected to your device.
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap on your AirPods name (usually near the top, or go to Bluetooth and tap the “i” next to your AirPods).
- Look for “Press and Hold AirPods” (for AirPods Pro, AirPods 3, AirPods Max) or “Double-tap on AirPod” (for AirPods 1st/2nd Gen).
- Tap on the current action (which likely says “Siri”) for both the Left and Right AirPod.
- Select an alternative option like “Noise Control” (for AirPods Pro/Max), “Play/Pause,” “Next Track,” “Previous Track,” or “Off.”
On Mac:
-
- Make sure your AirPods are connected to your Mac.
- Go to the Apple menu () > System Settings.
- Click on Bluetooth in the sidebar.
- Click the “i” button next to your AirPods.
- Next to “Press and Hold” or “Double Tap,” choose an option other than Siri for both “L” and “R.”
2. Completely turn off “Hey Siri” on your connected device (iPhone, iPad, Mac):
This will disable Siri from responding to “Hey Siri” commands from any device, including your AirPods.
-
On iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Siri & Search (or “Apple Intelligence & Siri” on newer models).
- Toggle off the following options:
- Listen for “Hey Siri”
- Press Side Button for Siri (or “Press Home for Siri” on older iPhones)
- Allow Siri When Locked
-
On Mac:
- Click the Apple menu () > System Settings.
- Click Siri & Spotlight (or “Apple Intelligence & Siri”).
- Toggle off Ask Siri.
- You can also set “Listen for” to “Off” to prevent “Hey Siri” activation.
3. Disable Siri from announcing notifications/calls:
If you only want Siri to stop reading out messages or calls through your AirPods:
- On iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Settings app.
- Go to Notifications.
- Tap Announce Notifications.
- You can then:
- Toggle off “Announce Notifications” entirely.
- Scroll down and disable “Announce Notifications” for specific apps.
- For calls, go back to Settings > Phone > Announce Calls and choose “Never” or “Headphones Only” (if you want it only for non-AirPods headphones).
