List of Companies Laying Off Employees in November

More than a hundred companies across the United States are preparing to reduce their workforce this November, signaling continued uncertainty in the labor market as the year draws to a close.

Why It Matters

The upcoming layoffs are expected to affect thousands of American workers just ahead of the holiday season. While job cuts are often linked to broader economic concerns, they can also stem from company restructuring, automation, or cost-optimization efforts aimed at maintaining profitability.

According to a report released in August by outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas, hundreds of thousands of layoffs have already taken place in 2025—many connected to President Donald Trump’s restructuring of the federal workforce.

Under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, U.S. employers must provide 60 days’ advance notice before conducting mass layoffs. A “mass layoff” is defined as one in which at least 50 employees lose their jobs within a 30-day period, affecting one-third of a company’s workforce, or when 500 or more employees are laid off regardless of total workforce size.

Expert Insight

Joanne Song McLaughlin, a labor economist at the University of Buffalo, told Newsweek that widespread uncertainty in the economy is one of the main reasons companies are scaling back on hiring and cutting staff.

“The current economic uncertainty comes from volatility in trade and fiscal policies, and the government shutdown. We also see structural changes driven by AI, which may be interacting with political and policy uncertainties,” she explained.
“When uncertainty is high, employers find it difficult to predict future conditions, so they tend to reduce investments and employment.”

While it remains unclear how long the current layoff wave will last, experts caution that workforce reductions could continue into early 2026 as companies navigate shifting economic and technological conditions.
