The Council of the European Union is offering exciting paid traineeship opportunities through its renowned Consilium Traineeship Programme, giving young professionals a chance to gain hands-on experience at the heart of EU decision-making in Brussels.
About the Opportunity
Held twice a year, the programme offers 5-month paid traineeships designed to provide practical insight into how the Council and the European Union operate. The next traineeship session will run from 1 September 2026 to 31 January 2027, and applications are currently open until 12:00 CET on 19 March 2026.
Around 110 traineeship positions are available annually across a wide range of fields, including EU policy, human resources, communication, and translation.
Benefits
The Consilium traineeship allows participants to contribute to the Council’s daily work, collaborate with experienced professionals, and develop a deeper understanding of EU policies and processes within a diverse and multicultural environment. Traineeships are paid and include grants, allowances, and additional benefits, making the programme both professionally rewarding and financially supportive.
The Council also runs a Positive Action Programme, reserving up to six traineeship positions each year for EU nationals with recognised disabilities. This initiative ensures inclusive access to valuable experience in EU law-making and policy development, while providing necessary support to participants.

Open to EU citizens who meet the eligibility requirements, the Consilium traineeship programme is an excellent opportunity for young graduates and professionals seeking international experience and a deeper understanding of European governance.
