This remote assignment, lasting between 7 and 11 months, supports the globally recognized Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report, which tracks progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education for All).
Supporting Global Education Monitoring
This consultancy focuses on transforming complex household survey data into reliable education indicators used to guide global education policy and decision-making. The selected consultant will collaborate closely with the GEM Report team to strengthen data systems, improve reproducibility of statistical workflows, and enhance the accuracy and quality of education indicators used internationally.
Key contributions include harmonizing datasets across countries, improving analytical programming using R and Stata, and supporting major online education data platforms such as WIDE, VIEW, and SCOPE.
Role and Key Responsibilities
The consultant will play both a technical and analytical role. Responsibilities include identifying and documenting education-related household survey sources, validating indicators, reviewing data quality, and contributing to statistical analysis, reports, and visualizations that inform global education monitoring. The work will help track education access, participation, completion, and inequality trends across multiple countries.
Qualifications and Skills Required
UNESCO is seeking a highly qualified professional with an advanced degree in education, economics, statistics, data science, or another relevant social science field. Candidates should have at least five years of experience working with household survey or census microdata, strong programming skills in R and Stata, and experience using Git/GitHub for reproducible workflows. The ability to communicate complex analytical findings clearly through technical documentation and reports is essential.
