1.Visualization and Digital Communication Specialist
About the Organization
Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED) is an independent, impartial conflict and protest monitoring organization providing real-time data and analysis on violent conflict and protest in all countries and territories across the world.
The Role
ACLED is looking for a Visualization and Digital Communication Specialist, taking part in the Global Risk Center Department, and reporting to the Manager of Risk Outputs.
This position is fully remote and can be done from any location with reliable internet service.
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
The Visualization and Digital Communication Specialist will be responsible for the following tasks:
Data visualization and digital communications
- Produce original visualizations of conflict patterns, themes and analysis outputs.
- Accurately and ably produce publishable quality maps, graphs and visuals for all ACLED departments.
- Cover all regions and make region-specific contributions to thematic or global outputs.
- Update and refine guidelines and direction of ACLED’s data visualizations and visual analysis.
- Support and further innovate on ACLED’s visual reporting and enhance ACLED’s visual brand identity.
- Research new data visualization methods and software to continuously improve ACLED outputs, keeping our data visualization outputs at the forefront of the latest visual trends.
- Contribute to the production of EA team and Global Risk Center outputs, in close coordination with the regional experts.
- Contribute to the media team’s response to journalist enquiries.
- Ensure data visualizations are using and applying correct data and summaries.
- Transform complex datasets into compelling visual stories.
- Support outreach efforts, liaising with the media, partners, and other external stakeholders in coordination with the External Affairs department.
Other
- Take part in and contribute to ACLED internal meetings.
- Regularly support how the Risk Center and the EA team assess brand reputation and reach.
- Assist the Risk Center and External Affairs management team, as required.
- Other ad hoc administrative, coordination, and communications tasks, as required.
Skills and Experience
ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:
- Experience in conflict analysis.
- Master’s Degree in Political Science/Social Sciences/Geography/Conflict Studies or other subjects relevant to this position.
- At least three (3) years of experience working within a research environment.
- Proven experience working with ACLED data (Preferable).
- Demonstrated experience with Tableau software and GIS. Knowledge of other data analysis software and programming languages is a plus.
- Fluency in English.
- Strong critical thinking and analysis skills.
- Strong writing and editing skills are a plus.
- A high level of attention to detail and the ability to provide, receive, and incorporate feedback.
- Experience working in a team, to tight deadlines, and with autonomy.

About ACLED

The role
As the Associate Media and Digital Communications Officer on the External Affairs Team, you will support ACLED’s media relations and digital communications work on LATAM and Asia analysis and on the impact of our data analysis to specialist sector outlets covering Insurance and Risk.
You will help draft media materials, coordinate outreach, monitor coverage, assist with digital content creation, and ensure consistent messaging across channels.
You will bring strong writing skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of the media and digital landscape. You will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating closely with colleagues, particularly the Media Relations Manager and social media colleagues.
Reporting to the Media Relations Manager, you will support all media and digital communications outputs, including webinars, podcasts, and cross-platform content coordination.
This position is fully remote, for 6 months, with the possibility of being extended.
Specific responsibilities
The Associate Media & Digital Communications Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:
Media Relations Support
- Build media knowledge and contacts in your designated region and specialist sectors of focus.
- Draft press releases, media advisories, quotes, and background materials under the direction of the Media Relations Manager.
- Support responses to media enquiries and coordinate interviews or information requests.
- Maintain up-to-date media lists, journalist databases, and monitoring systems.
- Track media coverage and produce initial data for analysis and KPI reporting.
- Assist with preparing talking points, briefings, and messaging documents.
- Assist with media training and interview practice.
Digital Communications Support
- Work closely with social media colleagues to ensure messaging alignment across all platforms.
- Assist in designing and producing digital content, including posts, graphics, short-form videos, and multimedia assets for use on social channels.
- Help ensure digital content reflects consistent branding, accuracy, and tone.
Podcasts, Webinars, and Multimedia
- Assist with planning, recording, and editing podcasts and webinars.
- Support guest coordination, scheduling, research, and preparation of scripts or content outlines.
- Provide basic support for video production, short news clips, and other multimedia materials.
General Responsibilities
- Help produce timely content aligned with the current news cycle and ACLED’s key data releases.
- Support media training logistics and preparation of training materials.
- Participate in occasional out-of-hours work as part of a duty rota; time off in lieu will be provided.
- Travel occasionally to conferences, ACLED meetings, or to support recording or filming projects if necessary.
Skills and Experience
ACLED is seeking applicants who have the following skills and experience:
Essential:
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Spanish.
- Bachelor’s degree with two to four years’ experience in media relations, or journalism.
- Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex information into clear and engaging content.
- Understanding of the media landscape and basic principles of digital communications.
- Experience creating digital content such as social media posts, graphics, or short-form videos.
- Familiarity with audio or video editing tools (e.g., Audacity, Adobe Premiere, Descript, or similar).
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines, respond quickly to emerging priorities, and exercise sound judgment.
- Excellent written English and strong attention to detail.
- Experience using media monitoring tools, databases, or digital analytics platforms.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with global colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Extensive working knowledge of how Tier 1 media outlets commission content.
- Knowledge of the Latin American media landscape, or Asia-Pacific media landscape.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of sector outlets covering
Insurance and Risk.
- Other language skills.
- Experience with Asana or equivalent project management platforms.
- Experience working in a fast paced environment.
- Experience supporting communications in academic, data-driven, or policy-focused environments.
- Experience with campaigns, event support, or cross-team content coordination.
