One person was left in life-threatening condition following a three-vehicle collision on Highway 401 in Whitby early Saturday morning.

According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the crash involved a pickup truck and two other vehicles and occurred on the eastbound lanes of the highway between Thickson Road and Stevenson Road. In an update posted around 7:40 a.m., OPP confirmed a full closure of the eastbound lanes to allow emergency crews to respond and investigators to examine the scene.

The closure remained in place for several hours, causing significant traffic delays throughout the area. Police reported backups stretching as far as Brock Street South. Motorists were advised to use alternate routes, including Victoria Street East, Consumers Drive, and Dundas Street East.

In a later update, investigators said the collision scene was cleared just before 3 p.m., and all eastbound lanes were reopened to traffic.

At this time, the circumstances leading up to the crash have not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police have not provided further details about the individuals involved.
