About the Internship

UNICEF is seeking an intern to support the integration of Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) principles into its sustainability agenda. The role will focus on analyzing behavioral data, synthesizing evidence, and supporting strategy development to advance the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (SCAP) Objective 3—reducing UNICEF’s environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices across operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Behavioral Insights & Evidence Synthesis: Consolidate and code existing data from Green Pulse surveys, EFAAT reports, and sustainability initiatives.

  • Behavioral Diagnostics & Prioritization: Identify behavioral barriers, motivational drivers, and priority target behaviors using SBC frameworks.

  • Strategy Support: Assist in drafting behavioral objectives, intervention concepts, messaging principles, and low-carbon decision tools.

  • Coordination & Knowledge Management: Support consultations, documentation, internal briefs, and dissemination of findings.

Eligibility

  • Enrolled in or recently completed a Master’s or advanced degree in behavioral science, psychology, social policy, development studies, sociology, anthropology, or related fields.

  • Knowledge of SBC frameworks and research methods.

  • Strong interest in sustainability and organizational behavior.

  • Skills in communications, data visualization, or graphic design are assets.

  • Fluency in English; French or Spanish is a plus.

  • Ability to work remotely and during CET time zone hours.

Benefits

  • Monthly stipend: USD 1,700 (New York, Geneva, Copenhagen) or 70% of UN GS3 Step 1 elsewhere.

  • Remote work flexibility; travel not required.

  • Interns must arrange their own living expenses and insurance.
