LIC Login – A Step-by-Step Guide on LIC Portal Login

If you’ve ever had to visit an LIC branch just to check your premium due date or download a payment receipt, you already know how much time it can eat up. Standing in a queue, filling out forms, waiting for a representative — it adds up fast. That’s exactly why the LIC Customer Portal exists. Once you know how to use it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t set it up sooner.

This guide walks you through everything: how to register, how to log in, what to do if you’re locked out, and all the things you can actually do once you’re inside the portal.

What Is the LIC Customer Portal?

The LIC Customer Portal (accessible at www.licindia.in) is an official online platform run by the Life Insurance Corporation of India. It lets policyholders manage their insurance policies digitally — without stepping foot in a branch.

Once you’ve registered and logged in, you can:

  • Pay your premiums online using UPI, net banking, debit/credit cards
  • Check policy status, maturity date, and sum assured
  • Download premium receipts and payment statements (very handy at tax time)
  • Track loan status on policies
  • View and update your KYC details, address, and bank account information
  • Register and monitor grievances or service requests
  • Check claim status

It’s available 24/7, which means you can take care of policy-related tasks at 10 PM on a Sunday if that’s what suits you.

Who Can Register on the LIC Portal?

Registration is completely free and open to all LIC policyholders in India. A few things worth knowing before you start:

  • You can register policies held in your own name as well as policies taken out for minor children (until they turn 18 — after which the child needs to create their own login)
  • If your spouse has an LIC policy, they need to register separately
  • Each registered user gets their own unique User ID

How to Register on the LIC Portal (New Users)

If you don’t have an account yet, here’s how to set one up:

Step 1: Go to the official LIC website — www.licindia.in

Step 2: On the homepage, click on the “Login” tab in the top navigation. From the dropdown, select “Customer Portal”

Step 3: On the login page, look for the option that says “Don’t have an account? Sign Up” and click it

Step 4: Enter your policy details — this typically includes your policy number, date of birth, premium amount (without GST), gender, and email ID. Click “Proceed”

Step 5: Create your Username and Password. Choose something you’ll remember but that isn’t too easy to guess

Step 6: Once registration is complete, you’ll receive an SMS or email confirmation from LIC. You can now go back to the login page and sign in with your new credentials

If you have multiple policies, you can enrol them under the same account after logging in — go to the “Enrol Policies” tab in your dashboard.

LIC Login – Step-by-Step for Registered Users

Already have an account? Here’s how to log in:

Step 1: Open your browser and visit www.licindia.in

Step 2: Click on “Login” at the top of the page and select “Customer Portal” from the dropdown

Step 3: You’ll land on the LIC e-Services page. Select “Registered User”

Step 4: A new window will open. Select your role as “Customer”, then enter:

  • Your User ID
  • Your Password
  • Your Date of Birth

Step 5: Click “Sign In”

That’s it. You’re in. From here, you can access all the services mentioned above from your personal dashboard.

Login with OTP (Faster Option)

If you’d rather not type your password, LIC also offers an OTP-based login option. On the login screen, choose “Login with OTP”, enter your registered mobile number and date of birth, and you’ll receive a one-time password to your phone. Enter it and you’re logged in — no password required.

You can also sign in using the E-Pramaan option if your account is linked to the government’s digital identity framework.

LIC Login on Mobile — Using the App

LIC also has a mobile app (LIC India) available on both Android (Google Play Store) and iOS (Apple App Store). The login process mirrors the desktop version:

  1. Download and open the LIC India app
  2. Tap “Login”
  3. Enter your User ID, password, and date of birth — or use the OTP login option
  4. Tap “Submit”

The app lets you do most of the same things as the web portal, including premium payments, policy status checks, and receipt downloads. It’s a solid option if you’re often on the go.

Forgot Your LIC User ID or Password? Here’s What to Do

Getting locked out is frustrating, but the recovery process is fairly straightforward.

Forgot Password:

  1. Go to the LIC Customer Portal login page
  2. Click on “Forgot User ID/Password”
  3. Select “Password” when prompted to choose what you need to recover
  4. Enter your User ID and your registered mobile number or email ID
  5. You’ll receive an OTP — enter it to verify your identity
  6. Create a new password and confirm it
  7. Submit — your password is now reset

Forgot User ID:

  1. Follow the same steps above, but select “User ID” instead
  2. Provide your registered email or mobile number
  3. Your User ID will be sent to your registered contact details

One small note: if you’re not receiving the OTP or recovery email, check that your registered mobile number and email are still active. If they’ve changed since you registered, you may need to visit your nearest LIC branch to update your contact details before you can recover access online.

LIC Merchant Portal Login (For LIC Agents and Merchants)

If you’re an LIC agent or authorised merchant who collects premiums on behalf of LIC, you use a different portal — the LIC Merchant Portal at merchant.licindia.in.

How to Log In:

  1. Visit merchant.licindia.in
  2. Enter your Username and Password
  3. Solve the CAPTCHA
  4. Click “Submit”

The merchant portal lets agents view policy documents, update premium collections, generate receipts, track transactions, and download reports. If you’ve forgotten your merchant portal password, use the “Forgot Password” option on the login page — enter your User ID and registered contact details to receive an OTP, then set a new password.

How to Pay LIC Premium Without Logging In

If you just need to make a quick premium payment and don’t want to go through the full login process, LIC does offer a guest payment option. From the LIC homepage, look for the online premium payment section and enter your policy number, date of birth, and email address to proceed directly to payment. You won’t need a registered account for this.

You can also pay through third-party platforms like Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM UPI, or your bank’s Bill Pay service — simply add LIC as a biller using your policy number.

What You Can Do After Logging In

Once you’re inside the LIC Customer Portal, here’s a look at everything available to you:

  • View all enrolled policies in one dashboard
  • Check policy status (active, lapsed, matured), maturity date, premium amount, and sum assured
  • Enrol additional policies to your account

  • Pay renewal premiums via net banking, debit/credit card, or UPI
  • Download premium payment receipts immediately after payment

  • Check reversionary bonus, loyalty additions, and final bonus declared on your policies

Service Requests

  • Submit requests for address changes, mobile number updates, bank account changes, and NEFT registration — all without visiting a branch
  • Register a complaint and track its status

Claim Tracking

  • Monitor the progress of submitted claims

Common LIC Portal Login Problems and Fixes

“Invalid Credentials” Error

Double-check your User ID, password, and date of birth. Note that the date of birth must be entered exactly as it was registered — even a format mismatch (DD/MM/YYYY vs MM/DD/YYYY) can cause this error. If you’re certain everything is correct, use the password reset option.

OTP Not Arriving

  • Check that your mobile number is active and has signal
  • Make sure the number registered on LIC’s system is current
  • Wait a minute and try requesting another OTP
  • Check if the message got filtered as spam by your carrier

Portal Not Loading or Login Button Unresponsive

  • Clear your browser’s cache and cookies
  • Try a different browser or open an incognito/private window
  • Disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers
  • Check if you’re connected to a stable internet connection

Locked Out After Multiple Failed Attempts

If your account gets locked due to too many wrong password attempts, use the “Forgot Password” option to reset your credentials. This should also unlock the account.

Tips for Keeping Your LIC Account Secure

A few habits that go a long way:

  • Change your password periodically — the portal lets you do this anytime from your account settings
  • Never share your User ID or password with anyone, including people claiming to be from LIC
  • Use a strong, unique password — avoid birthdays or simple number sequences
  • Keep your registered mobile number and email up to date — they’re your lifeline if you ever get locked out
  • Log out after every session, especially on shared devices

If you ever receive a suspicious call or message asking for your LIC login credentials, don’t share them. LIC will never ask for your password over a call or text.
