The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced applications for a six-month remote internship supporting its Sustainable Livelihood and Resilience portfolio in Afghanistan, offering students and recent graduates an opportunity to contribute to documentation, reporting, and knowledge management for development initiatives.
The home-based internship is part of UNDP’s Social Protection, Inclusion and Social Cohesion for Resilient Communities (SPIS) Project, which aims to strengthen resilience, social inclusion, and community cohesion in displacement-affected and vulnerable communities across Afghanistan. The successful candidate will support project documentation while working under the supervision of the Technical Expert for Social Cohesion and Inclusion and the overall guidance of the Portfolio Manager for Livelihoods.
According to the vacancy announcement, the intern will help document project activities, review partner reports, prepare summaries of achievements and lessons learned, support the development of beneficiary and human-interest stories, maintain digital records, update project trackers, assist with reporting templates, and contribute to briefing notes, presentations, and donor reports. The role also includes participating remotely in coordination meetings and documenting key discussions and follow-up actions.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or postgraduate degree programme in fields such as international relations, international affairs, development studies, public policy, social sciences, or a related discipline. Recent graduates who can begin the internship within one year of graduation are also eligible to apply.
UNDP is seeking candidates with at least one previous internship or professional experience with an international organization or non-governmental organization, preferably in areas related to social cohesion, inclusion, or protection. Experience coordinating meetings or organizing outreach activities will be considered an advantage. Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English and available to work a minimum of three working days per week.
The internship supports UNDP’s broader efforts to address Afghanistan’s ongoing humanitarian and development challenges through integrated programmes focused on livelihoods, financial inclusion, resilience, gender equality, and community recovery. The SPIS project combines social protection, inclusion initiatives, and livelihood opportunities to help vulnerable communities rebuild social, human, and financial capital while promoting sustainable development.
